Our team

How it started… With his background in the cleaning world, Gert-Jan saw that there was a need to rent new cleaning vehicles. To respond to this demand, he and Denise started a rental company from home, AW Materieel, with a fleet of 3 garbage trucks. The fleet continued to expand, and over time, at the request of customers, more and more work was done on building third-party garbage trucks.

Erik works closely with Jan Jaap in his position as engineer. In our new engineering office, with a beautiful view at the AW Machinery workshop, the mechanics like to visit him to check whether they are on the right track, or to discuss new ideas. Conversely, a round through the workshop is also quickly made.

Pascal, like Kees, worked at the Dutch Ministry of Defense. He was a weapon mechanic at a combat unit, but there were not many career opportunities for him. He therefore looked for another job, started looking, applied for a job at AW Materieel and was hired.

Hinko is our service technician and therefore also our company's business card! He approached AW Materieel because he was looking for a new workplace: a workplace with a good atmosphere and closer to home. While searching, he ended up on the AW website. This gave him a good impression, and he was very interested! Once the contact was made and his expectations were confirmed, he made the switch.

Allard is AW's business card. He knew about AW because he worked at one of our suppliers. This was a larger organization and the need had been there for a long time to work within a smaller organization, an organization with shorter lines. His current position, customer relations manager, was created for and with him. A great opportunity that he grabbed with both hands.

Jeroen came to AW for an assignment as a freelancer (welder) years ago and has never left! We can say that welding is his true passion. Jeroen does all the welding within AW Machinery. He likes to work independently and has a private workstation at AW Machinery.

Kees is a mechanic in heart and soul! He started his career at the Dutch Ministry of Defense and now works at AW Materieel. Years before his employment he was informed about AW through his former colleague (Pascal), who switched from the Dutch Ministry of Defense to AW already.

Enrico is working at AW since 2020. He started out as a mechanic in the AW Materieel workshop, but soon ended up in the new Machinery workshop. The perfect place for him! Enrico likes to build new crane hook vehicles, but helping out with the final assembly of washing units also works perfectly for him.

Lucas recently joined us, after several internships in different years at the ROC Friese Poort in Emmeloord. He joined our AW Machinery team. In the welding area he works closely with colleague Jeroen.

Germ started here as an apprentice in his 3rd year of Commercial Economics. He liked this so much that he continued working with us during the summer vacations as well as his 4th school year. And he did his graduation internship partly abroad via..... AW Machinery. Meanwhile, Allard can't miss him as a colleague relationship manager, and Germ gets all the freedom and opportunities to learn and also independently go out to our customers!
Yorick knows a lot and does various things! Starting as a work planner, he took on the position of team leader AW Machinery (through the recommendation of his colleagues). One moment he is busy with ordering stock and purchasing materials, the next moment he is managing the workshop employees.

Wouter is our company manager at AW Materieel since July 2024. With his years of experience in engineering and managing companies, he was the right person for us! Wouter was looking for a new challenge closer to where he lives and saw the vacancy with us. Because Wouter already knew Gert-Jan and Allard, an initial meeting was quickly arranged and the impressions from both sides were positive!
Klaas is our friendly retired driver. He does not have to work, but WANTS to work and does so with great pleasure. Many customers already know Klaas. Klaas has been delivering cars for my years.

In her position as controller, Marijke has contact with everyone within our company. She works at AW since september 2019. She wasn't really looking for another job, but when she discovered this job was vacant and looked at the AW website, she thought: "I would like to work here!" The pages 'about AW and the society' and 'CSR' particularly appealed to her.

Piotr was an agricultural mechanization mechanic. One day he ran into Jeroen (our welder) and started talking to him. Jeroen convinced Piotr to come and have a look at AW. No sooner said than done. He was given a nice tour, found the people to be friendly and the versatility appealed to him. You may have already guessed: Piotr has also been working for us for a while.

Boukje is our sweet, and cheerful secretary employee! She started at AW as cleaner and worked her way up to her current position. Partly because she got a lot of confidence from the team, she is now multi-deployable. She has a fixed package of tasks, but also does many ad hoc activities. She coordinates most of the work with Denise, Marijke and Alfred.

When Lucas' previous employer was taken over, he decided to look for a new challenge. At that time, we were looking for an additional mechanic for AW Materieel, and since Lucas started here, he proved to be a valuable addition to our team.
After a few wanderings I am back at AW Materieel. I used to work here for a few hours a week. Now work 3,5 days at AW. The nice thing about my job now is that it is very diverse. From making purchase invoices, keeping track of the bankaccounts to make quotations. Because of this I have a lot of contact with different colleagues. The AW team is very nice. Everyone is treated equal and that makes you feel very appreciated. No one is more or less, we need each other.

When Eize's previous employer Geesink was taken over, Eize started looking for other work. Quite by chance, we were looking for an additional mechanic for AW Machinery, and from the very first moment Eize fit seamlessly into the team.
Sipke joined us in 2021, after having completed 2 internships at AW, just like his colleague Lucas. Sipke is one of the 1st class of students of the new training Specialist Mobile Technology at the Friesland College in Heerenveen.

Last academic year, Francois did a project with 3 fellow students at AW Machinery, in which they designed a bicycle washing machine. The contact was very good and Francois wanted to do his 3rd year internship with our engineers this academic year.

Anton had been visiting AW for years because he is Denise's father, but since early 2023 he has also been working at AW and together with Sjors he drives all the rental trucks to and from the customers.
Nick is joining our team in a very nice way since the end of 2022. Denise has known Nick for several years from the Care Farm and we are very happy with Nick's interest and enthusiasm to want to fill in the most diverse work at AW. Washing cars and trucks, taking care of the animals, helping the neighbor as a truck driver, building a chicken coop, and doing manual labor in the workshop; Nick's work is never boring.... and the colleagues from the Care Farm regularly stop by to see how things are going!
